Bside the Cside
Established for 20+ years in Herne Bay, Kent
Chris' love of music came from David Cassidy and David Essex, but having lived in towns all her life her love for living by the seaside was always a dream. Luckily, an opportunity came for Oz and Chris to give up their day jobs and run an established vinyl records shop in Herne Bay, which fulfilled both their dreams of owning a record shop and living by the seaside.
Bside the Cside has a stock of 25,000 records on its website, but there are lots more vinyl in the shop including rare records and new vinyl. Both Oz and Chris wanted to update the experience of record shops and also to bring back some of the nostalgia of vinyl, which is why they have installed a listening booth, an Abbey Road crossing themed entrance and a Blues and Jazz room. There is even a settee for vinyl junkies partners to relax and read magazines. There is also a VPI record cleaning service for a small fee.
Also, on the first Saturday of every month (starting again on 3rd October 2015) Bside the Cside work with Kris Searle’s ‘Music Studio on The Pier’ and Kris provides local music artists, which play live in the Bside the Cside shop creating a great atmosphere.
Their shop is really worth a visit.
Bside the Cside is owned by husband and wife team Oz and Chris.
Oz's first love of vinyl was in 1962 when he bought his first record - Telstar by Tornadoes - for 6s/8d, thereby spending all his pocket money and, in later years, most of his wages on his passion for vinyl. Oz recalls the excitement of buying a record, rushing home to play it on his Dansette record player and reading the cover notes from back to front. 50 years later, and 14,000 vinyl records later, he remains as passionate as ever and believes that music still sounds better on vinyl than on any other format.
